Subject: JD 9770 hyd pump issues

Breckenridge, Mn
Hello,

Asking for a farmer friend - on his 9770 combine, they have had to replace the second to the last pump on the "pump stack" 3 times last year, Deere is no help - claim bad pumps and just gives/sells him a new pump.

I used to work on those combines, and remember on the 9600 we had trouble with the unload auger sensor failing, this would keep the pump on full pressure when the auger in-out switch was in any other position than neutral, and the pump would fail.

Could it be something like this happening on the 9770 ?

His farm mechanic worked on them and tested the flow at 10 gal / min (spec) but no pressure - did the flow test to make sure the pump had enough supply - it is the pump that supplies the valve stack functions, rotor speed / auger in-out / all the low volume systems
As the last pump worked when installed, but after driving out of the shop it failed - worked for 5 minutes - and no more at the dealer, he then got some valves and connected the hoses to the 17 gallon feeder house lift pump, then the system works. He would let the auger out and set the rotor speed (corn harvest) then switch the valves to feeder house lift, and they finished the season.

Have any of you had similar issues ? Is it really just bad pumps from Deere ? Or something else ?

Another farmer they spoke with, used the 17 gal/min pump instead of the OEM 10 gal/min, he made some adapter plate so they were able to connect the pumps, and this has worked for 3 years - so if they had trouble 3 years ago, would Deere still have bad pumps to sell, or is there something else going on ?

Thank you

Kenny Larsen

Edited to get the facts straight after I spoke with the mechanic....
