Subject: RE: Tillage advise on late season corn / construction site

central - east central Minnesota -

71307140 - 7/9/2020 16:14 Working for looking local contractor at duck club planting 80 day corn for ducks . They took a pan scraper and peeled 20” off a 10 ac field and want me to plant corn in it . Soil is good river bottom silt . I think we need to chisel the ground as the scrapers really packed the surface . I told them don’t expect a good stand of corn in these conditions. What does ag talk think - hit with soil saver chisel and FC and plant ?? No till and cover crops are not a answer done here! Thanks guys

Some feedback - read your post, before you submit to forum.

If it's just for the ducks, I'd likely notill plant it and plant around 18 - 20,000 ppa. no more. If it is too hard to notill, I'd hit it with a disk, lightly breaking the surface (not more then 1 1/2 to 2 inchs deep. Then plant . . . .

I would not chisel plow it. It'll be bricks and NOTHING will germ . . . . .

Is that top soil finish grade or subsoil, as their finish grade ? It looks more like subsoil dirt more then top soil ?
