As I said I'm ignorant to how it works owning land on a reservation. I know Montana has farmers that own land on reservations and I've heard it can be messy when transferring property. It seems like this could open up a whole bag of issues, legal cases, and wasted $s.
I'm sure if you asked a real estate attorney about it right now the response would be we are in a wait and see mode right now.
Aren't big communal Reservations down here like in the West. The "Civilized" tribes did more of a homesteading and actual ownership in the early 1900's. All that said this decision has nothing to do with land ownership. It has to do with who prosecutes a Tribe member when they commit a crime on historic Tribal lands, nothing more. |
