My front load has a drain tube for the pump. I didn't drain it the first few years and the pump went out. tube was full of greasy dirt. Just checked it recently and the flow was clean.. I wash a lot of dirty greasy work cloths. Actually I was surprised it was so clean. It also has a filter screen. What's your manual say?
