Subject: Economic threshold for spraying corn rootworm beetles

Hereford, TX
I have one field that is in its third year of corn in a row. I also had a bad hail on this field a couple weeks ago. The guy that does my aerial application says we need to spray for corn rootworm beetles so that they won’t clip my silks. What’s the economic threshold for spraying corn rootworm beetles? I don’t think this field has very high yield potential because of the hail. Lots of the tassels coming out are full of smut. I can’t remember what chemical he was wanting to use, but it was going to cost $25/acre. I’m in an area that we can’t spray pyrethroids because it will kill all of my beneficial insects and flare the spider mites.
