Austin MN | We are doing dry urea right now for a few guys that got behind due to weather and break downs. Swath width is going to vary based on rate and the spreader being used on the aircraft. I'll bet dollars to donuts he's using a 10 inch transland spreader since it's pretty well the industry standard for dry fertilizer. With that sprader equipped there is no way he can do 100 foot swaths and not have streaks regardless of rate. We run the same spreaders on the dromaders and at 100 lbs/ac of urea we run around 60 feet. From there it's either open of shut the gate and adjust swath to get the rate right. Example the farmer we were flying for today wants 195 lbs of urea/ac. Pilot had to go down to 48 ft and open the gate a bit to get it right. Rule of thumb from the old rice pilots that flew alot was your better off to narrow up your swath because you'll do a better job.
Out of curiosity are you willing to share what they were charging? | |
