Subject: RE: Speaking of Roads

St. Joseph, Champaign County, IL
Meaning one lane is concrete (where the slab comes from, and the other half tar and chip (at least around here)?

There were a couple around here, and those roads still get referred to as “xxxxx slab.* The 2 lane between St. Joseph and Sidney, IL, is one such road. Depending on where you live it’s either the St. Joe/ Sidney slab, or the Sidney/ St. Joe slab.

I’m not old enough to remember it when it was just the one lane of concrete, with gravel/ dirt shoulders. I only remember it as half concrete, half tar and chip. It’s since been converted to 2 lanes of asphalt, but needs to be redone in the worst way. It’s a state road, and some of the state 2 lanes are the worst roads in the county.
