Competitive wages are a must. If you don’t offer insurance, you’ll have to add some money for them to go buy it. If you don’t want to mess around with a retirement you can up their wages so they can do that on their own. Set up a vacation allowance. If the put in long hours during certain seasons, and you are slow during other seasons, offer comp time. Say you work 80 hours one week. Offer for them to take another week off during the winter time most guys will jump all over getting Extra time off. Can really benefit both parties. Most coop jobs around here want to run u like a dog during the spring and fall and then expect you to sit around in the winter with nothing to do a lot of times to get 40 hours a week. I can tell ya right now, most guys would rather go home on comp time than sit and do nothing or busy work.

I 100% agree on the comp time.
Granted, I’d take the time off to farm, but I’d probably stay at my factory job for a long while If I could exchange for overtime hours for comp time off
