NE ND | My vote is 12 gauge gas operated or pump. I have been part of our local youth trap league now for 3 years. Every kid (girl or boy) that had started with a 20 only shoots it for one year then goes to a 12. Like others have said, bigger payload. I really don't think the 12 recoils anymore than a 20 due to the gun being heavier. I would also recommend a 26 inch barrel. It will swing much faster.
My son started with my 870 12 gauge. Bought himself a CZ 12 gauge semi the next year. He bought himself a 12 gauge over/under feochi last year. He only shot it one round. He shot poorly. I asked what happened. He said the new gun kicks like a mule and hurts his cheek. I was sceptical as they were only shooting light trap loads. I shot it twice. Yep, it kicks like a mule. I don't know what it was about that over/under but the pump and semi auto were way less recoil. | |
