NE Iowa | A perfect stand of bromegrass is the best for choking out weeds. But bromegrass is very slow to establish so have to use something else with it. I would use a mix of bromegrass, fescue, and orchard grass. If seeding in early September I would also seed winter rye. The rye will come up quickly and live until it heads out next spring. Then if you mow it next May the rye won't regrow but your permanent grass should have a good start by then. | |
