Subject: Plat Book Question

Northern Illinois
If a company like Rockford Maps prints a yearly county plat book how do they get the information? Do they pour through all the land records and get their information or does the county have these maps and the printing company just compiles the information? Just for amusement I have been looking through our county book. I notice some parcels are not correct. Lawyer says (and I fully believe him) not to worry about it because things are correctly recorded. Also looking at 2014 vs 2018 and some acreage has changed (by an acre or 2) without a change in ownership or anything else. So how does acreage change? For example in the 2014 book a parcel is correctly described as far as ownership. In the 2018 book with nothing being done the ownership is listed as the pre 2005 owners. As I said I know nothing has been changed as it is my family's land.
