West Central Wisconsin
I hit my head.. hard... Lol. We actually started feeding a few calves as an experiment to raise our own feeder cattle last July. I loved what was happening and decided to switch gears. In March, we sold all of the big cattle and started retrofitting buildings. We can now feed 2600 calves to 300-350 lbs a year and I love it. We don't need all the feed, and make so much less manure. I have been meaning to post some pictures lately but haven't done so. We feed in pens of six with milk bar feeders. We have one room we mix milk in and pump it to a dispensing hose I can drag through the barn to each pen. Currently I am building steer stuffers designed special for the weaned calves. We bring in 40-70 head a week and wean 40-70 head a week, every week of the year now. Really makes cash flows easier. I do everything myself now. We are also cash cropping 600 acres and plan to continue to expand there.
