Yes. Signs provide name recognition. Personal contact is just as important, if not more important. Knocking on doors and introducing yourself works as well. I recall a number of years ago, a lady knocked on my door, introduced herself and basically said, "I am running for tax collector, and I would like your vote." As I recall, I voted for her simply because she took the initiative to knock on my door, introduce herself and ask for my vote. Knowing the candidate is preferable; knocking on doors is still a good idea. But sometimes a candidate can't meet every voter. In those cases, name recognition - thru political signs - is the way to make the voter aware that you are a candidate for any particular office. |
