N.E. MT
We do lot’s of both. Our barley silage is usually right at 12-14 protein and 38-40 neg. corn silage typically is 8-9 protein and 45 neg. the barley we let get fairly mature as it makes nearly a perfect ration for momma cows, and most years alfalfa hay is what we have to go with it so the neg is nice. The corn silage is usually taken earlier than ideal as typically the frost is what brings the moisture down rather than maturity. On an 85 day corn we typically get full dent and are happy with that.
