My wife and I buy one share of VTI everyday. It is a Vanguard ETF that is meant to mirror the total stock market. We are in the 12% tax bracket (wife is a stay at home mom and we are on the wrong end of an amortization schedule on a farm purchase...ie big tax deduction) so we utilize Roth IRA's currently then a taxable account as we want to have access to the funds in the event we want to buy more farmland. As we move up in tax brackets we will need to consider other savings vehicles. It has a .03% expense ratio which is pretty low. We are mid-thirties and we feel like this will allow us to live a comfortable life style as we age.
I don't think you would have to do it everyday, that's just how we do it and it helps us maintain the mindset of thinking about our budget and making sure we are planning for the future. The discipline of saving is a big deal. Best of luck in whatever you choose.
