I know our soils are light compared to most corn growing areas. I don't think you could find a field over 2% OM in my county.
With that said..........due to our altitude and cooling off most nights, we can grow good irrigated corn. Most here strip till 200-250 lbs of N via NH3 pre plant. Then they'll pump some liquid N (maybe 50 lbs) right at tassel. Anything less than 225 bushel corn is a failure with lots of fields at 275+. The better fields will get somewhere around 30" of added irrigation to them most years. Just wanted to show how long the Anhydrous N can hang around in our soils. Not sure how that applies in your area.
