I knew a guy who could burn up anything and never use more than a few quarts of diesel. He said you have to get a good hot fire going first, before you start piling on it. Otherwise you just "burn up all your good stuff and leave the hard to burn stuff". I've seen him have two or three piles going at once and once he got them hot he could burn up anything he put on them right after he pulled it out of the ground. I've never been that good though.
