Subject: RE: Raising Cattle on Pasture with Supplemental Feed

I have 9-10 acres fenced pasture which isn't suited to cropping. It's split in roughly half with half that can be gated off and half with the water and feed where they are always on. I'll run 20-30 head which average about 800# from early April - late November. What makes it work is the self feeder where they have continuous access to ground corn and barley plus mineral. I'll feed about 2 tons of grain per week depending on the weather and size of the cattle. The grass is Ky 31 tall fescue as I've not found anything else that will hold up. I'm basically a feed lot but I don't collect manure or feed hay when they are on grass. The number of head depends on how much grain you want to feed.
