Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | I sold some 2020 corn last October. Probably going to be my best sale. Just didn't do enough. LOL
There have been at least a few times in nearly 40 years of selling grain that I sold too soon. And not by a little bit. I remember wheat back in the early 2000's was in the $3.00-$3.50 range for several years. New crop got up to $4.00 - $4.50 so I sold a bunch. That was the year HRWW went to $11.00.
It didn't happen to me but a friend of mine had a well known marketing advisor contract a bunch of his corn for $2.20 in the early 2000's then it went to $4.00 Cost him dearly.
A few times like that will make a guy a little shy about cashing in too much too soon.
$4.00 is a good price about anytime. $5.00 would excite me more. We need to be careful about getting too pessimistic and be selling at prices below cost of production as they are now. Even though seasonality tells us otherwise. You just never know what can happen. |
