Barley is expensive here unless your raise it yourself ( I think we gave $19/100 the other day at the feed mill in bags for rolled), and then you're giving up 150-175 bpa corn for 50-60 bpa barley and hoping it doesn't winter kill. I understand there are western cattle that don't know what corn is, and guys here feeding approx. 1:1 to corn. Guy I buy bulls from grew up in ND, talks about his dad worrying about feeding steers too much barley in the winter because he didn't want to burn the snow off them. Biggest user of barley here is show cattle industry.
