West Central Iowa | I independently fill semen tanks as a side business. While I don't recommend to people to let tanks go dry as a Best Management Practice, I have never come across a situation where letting a wet tank go dry, and then try to use it again caused it's demise. Actually, I keep some older tanks around for short term nitrogen storage that get filled/emptied up to 10 times per year, and do not believe the integrity of the tank has been severely impacted. Not just empty and still cold, but actually warm, and need re-cooled. These were tanks that customers' weren't comfortable to keep semen in any longer, but have worked well for me in this capacity for over 5 years.
