The worst thing may be DP, but the second worst is giving someone physical control of your grain without having the basis set. Even under commercial storage, the incentive to "bid up" for grain drops. Most places have an "outgoing" fee, plus the cost of you loading it up there and going down the road. I have never heard of a producer actually doing such, maybe it happens, but rarely. The grain buyers know this and factor that into basis bids also.
Good rule to follow is no grain gets delivered anywhere until the price is set.
There is zero incentive for the basis to improve after they have your grain in their possession.
