Use your crop insurance to your advantage. Don’t sell above guaranteed bushels. I get the argument but more guys have lost more money making the statement “I don’t know how much I’m going to raise” when it comes to marketing ahead vs the guys that have aggressively sold ahead and had to buy out bushels. Being on either side has it’s downfalls choose which one you would rather be.


I know a few guys around here that refuse to contract more than let’s say 10bpa of beans and 50 of corn for that very reason. If I get a price I’m happy with, I’ll go right up to my guarantee every time without question. I just don’t see why somebody wouldn’t if the price was right. I don’t even consider that being aggressive...just prudent.
