Yet, a lot of those calving ease genetics also have better than average carcass traits (or EPD projections).

Some cow calf guys “try” to keep some of the “quality” traits in mind when We pick bulls to hopefully help the yards sell quality griddable animals to a consumer that wants premium quality beef on a plate

Feet is a big thing as I save heifers for my herd. I don’t like the calving ease extremes that all breeds are barreling down. But, if it ain’t black and Decent calving ease, then those bigger BW lower CEW bulls sell for less at the local bull sales because no one wants to pull calves and check at night.

Our industry is hurtling towards efficiency... spend the least amount of time and feed to get them to the kill floor. Bone requires energy and protein. And, we are in a hurry to turnover the inventory. I wonder if these high feed efficiency genetics actually have shorter longevity in a mature cowherd?

I thought we were a beef industry.... not a cattle industry?
