Cadiz Kentucky | John,
We have cut slightly over 3000 aces in Western Ky 75 miles north of Nashville. Had plans to finish today. Yield average is 88 currently “very blessed”, TW is 61-62. Has been tough getting to dry wheat which we finally hit yesterday. We started at 28% and from calls received the man above blessed us. You go 20 miles north and east of us and the freeze event absolutely devastated growers yields. With that said I have been told 20 bpa to 60 bpa with everyone saying the quality is great which I think is a direct result of the cool May grain fill. Our planting date happened to allow us to escape the freeze damage on wheat with only 5-10%. We had Barley that took at 50% hit from freeze event and yielded 57 when our planting expectations were 110. D/C beans are planted right up to combines mostly with a slight delay from large square baling the straw and woke up to a unexpected rain this morning. With the help of some great employees that did not mind getting wet we covered a second half stack of 600 bales with a 100’ x100’ tarp while raining a tough job with water standing on it! Almost to TOUGH but WE WON! So all in all a good day. In general wheat quality in our area is great, yields are a huge difference between have and have knots due to planting date and the lows the morning of the freeze. Hope that answers your question from Western Ky where wheat and d/c sb will equal corn acres for most operations. That stops 60 -75 miles north of us depending on price of soybeans! Best of luck to everyone and Happy Fathers Day to ALL!
