167,000 lbs of bmr hay makes how much beef???? Figure i get $1.00 a lbs for the beef I turn it into.
Numbers from many many years ago suggested around 8:1 or 8# of input to 1# gain.
Those gain number might be wildly optimistic but I don't think its going to be off by more than maybe a factor of 3.
So if you had decent calves and you were not looking for 3#/day ADG.
Well calculation suggests maybe 5000# of beef and likely some more.
So it becomes (grinning) - - - - do you sell it knowing you're losing money or do you feed it - - - - and hope you're 'not' losing money.
Well buy the calves right and I'd be gambling that you could make a buck - - - - not get rich money but if you made a $20 bill over costs (including reasonable yardage) - - - -
