southern MN
My barn, not open shed, but barn, has the doors facing north east. Not sure who thought that was a good idea, but it works here.

The barn is down below the hill, as well as a pretty big grove on the NW of the whole yard. The cattle yard and barn doors are mostly protected from the worst cold NW blizzards here.

My machine shed I faced the main door to the west. About perfect for me, again the big grove protects that spot, no drifting at all, only the rare SW wind will hit it.

So, depends what other features you have going on maybe?

I’ve read on here many times, don’t face anything the directions those buildings are. But it works here, with the safe harbor cove features of the grove and hill......
