I agree, the Palmer is prone to lag behind when crop damage may occur especially in less forgiving soil types. But by the same token, the majority of the corn belt hasn’t yet reached the levels of plant transpiration or the sustained high temperatures that would meaningfully deplete all that subsoil moisture from the May maps.
