Subject: RE: older agleader/trimble liquid system questions.

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
EZ-Boom could be setup to completely REPLACE the Raven or to work WITH the Raven.

The setups I worked with were the first type where the Raven was removed and EZ-Boom handled rate control, section control and mapping. The 16 pin connector on the back of EZ-Boom followed Ravens wiring pattern so in many cases, EZ-Boom could be substituted for the Raven with no change in wiring. The Master and Section switches on EZ-Boom do NOT directly control the section valves as they do with the Raven. These switches are inputs to the system. The system uses those inputs and other information to decide when and where each section should be ON.

The other setup uses a Tee cable so the Raven is still involved and is in charge of rate control. That means that the desired rate is entered into the Raven as usual. It receives the flow information from the flow meter and adjusts the control valve in an attempt to get the applied rate to agree with the target rate. EZ-Boom handles the section control and mapping. It can consult its own map and shut off sections in areas that had already been sprayed. This means that the previous section switches would left in the OFF position. EZ-Boom can send power out to the section valves as it feels appropriate. It would also send this to the Raven to "back feed" the section pins via the Tee cable. This means that the Raven would be receiving the correct boom sense as far as which sections were ON at any given time. This is necessary so that the Raven can correctly compute the applied rate. The flow information is used for rate control and the various totals involving volume.

When used this way the sprayer is run pretty much as before except that EZ-Boom can shut off sections for you as well as make maps.

Although this results in more cab clutter, the advantage is that the operator can still enter target rates etc as before. With the other complete Raven replacement setup where EZ-Boom is doing everything, the target rates and other information all needs to be entered into the 500 screen which was a bit clumsy.
