The children would probably enjoy "Bear Country USA". It is located between Rapid City and Mt Rushmore. You can do a web search for "Bear Country USA" to get more information.
There are numerous very scenic areas near Mt Rushmore where you can have a picnic with the children and short easy hikes on the trails.
