Eastern parts of the state had multiple blizzards resulting in 6' of snow drifted into the headlands and 18"-36" of snow in the interior of the field that was above the ears in some cases. I don't think the ground really froze much out there under that thick blanket of snow. In ND most winters snow doesn't melt much from mid November until early March.
