I've never had trouble killing ryegrass in my no-till corn. I plant and spray in one pass. Minimum 2 qts/acre glyphosate along with qt. 2-4-D and residuals of choice. Perhaps my always-a-good-kill has something to do with the fact that I use the above mentioned herbicides in 40 gallons of water per acre. Some kinds of plants need to be doused with spray solution to be sure to get enough area of plant leaves in contact with the herbicide. Ryegrass being one of them. Laugh if you want, but I've never had a failure.
