I don't think China cares about south America, they want to own it.
This. They didn't start investing in SA infrastructure 10+ years ago because they want to help them. They did it because they want to have SA so indebted to them that they can essentially take it over and finally have their own food supply.
Everyone wants to blame the trade war for China favoring SA, but they began this long ago. If not for the trade war, they would be doing the same thing and the blame would just be elsewhere.
