It does take awhile to lock onto omnistar. It shouldn't take an hour but probably more like 20 minutes. Trees and other objects affect the signal so make sure you are in the open. There is a quick start setting that basically makes a connection within probably 30 seconds if the vehicle hasn't been moved since it was turned off.
