Always wondered why people burn corn and wheat residue...why do y'all burn it? I would think letting it break down in the soil would be more beneficial...just asking
So that it dries out before July. When the soil is frozen the majority of the year, residue doesn't breakdown as fast as it does where you are.
We haven't had significant rain since March, and the soil under the corn stubble was still plenty wet and smeary earlier this week. The bean stubble has been bone dry since early May.
He's several hundred miles north of me.
Burnt yesterday, dug today.
