Don’t no anything about your area but here, custom harvesting/planting won’t get much business. Most times, farmers are doing it for basically there cost so they can have a chance at renting the farm from the older guy who is hiring out the combine work for his last few years. All the farmers around here do their own planting. Might be a few exceptions.

There have been some get involved with custom spraying. But you can’t just custom spray. You have to handle all the chemicals and even sell to farmers who do there own spraying. A lot of custom sprayers make there application look cheap but make a nice mark up on the chemicals. Hey whatever works. It makes farmers actually think that a custom guy is spraying there fields for $5/acre.

There is a big custom hay/straw baler around us. But he is in it big. Got hooked up with some dairies and other livestock. Has over 5 big balers. Looks like he is doing well.

Is your wanting to buy yourself into a job, I would look into excavation or tile installation. There are guys who wait years to get a person to tile up a farm. You have to be good and quick though. All other areas of custom ag work are pretty cut throat. People are willing to do things for next to nothing. And you are at a big disadvantage to where you don’t have a farm to utilize some equipment.

Good luck. There could be opportunities out there just look at what guys don’t want to do.
