Basswood is really fun to saw.  It isn't hard enough to make the mill work, and it tends to not have tension on the log, so the boards stay flat when you remove them from the cant,  plus it's light enough to be easy to move around.  It's kind of pretty too, in a plain way.  The wood is a nice bright white color.
