Subject: MCT and fish oil

Pittsburg, Kansas

We have used several different fish oils, Here is one of the latest.

This is one we just got in but have not used it yet. Some fish oils have a more fishy taste than others, Don't know about this one yet. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VZ3180W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here is the one we are currently using and it seems fine. Ha! The price on this one had raised a bunch so I ordered something different. Now I see the price is lower than the one above. Go figure. We do like this brand. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B4NFNS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1  It does come in a dark glass bottle which is good. In an old post it was a different brand but the price went way up on it so we quit using it. It was in a black plastic bottle.

Store your fish oil in the refrigerator because it is subject to oxidation. Some say fish oil is not effective because of the oxidation factor and a person would be better off to eat oily ocean fish. That may be true but hard for some of us to accomplish. Results are varying on the benefit of fish oil and omega 3 supplementation but the trials that show no benefit generally either use very low dosage in the trials or the trials are way too short to show benefit.

We have also used different MCT oils but here is the latest and it seems to be fine. We have went to the gallon size as it makes the C8 oil about as cheap as the C8-C10 blend oil. The advantage of the C8 is it is a shorter chain fat and tends to be easier on the stomach for those sensitive to it. We never had any problem with the C8-C10 blends we used though. Important tip - don't start out glugging the stuff. It will give you the squirts if you use too much too quick. Teaspoon to start once a day. Work up slowly as you tolerate it. We have backed off on the amount (were up to about two tablespoons a day) to about a couple teaspoons a day. The MCT oil goes directly to the liver to be processed into ketones. We generally eat a ketogenic diet anyway so probably don't need to use any MCT oil. We just use it kind of like we take a multi-vitamin. In case we MIGHT need it, not because we know we need it. It just helps insure ketones are available for the brain should it be needed.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MC9CF5B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1  regular size

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084XZGLP4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1    gallon size

You don't have to drink the stuff. We do it that way because we drop the vitamin D3-K2 drops in it as both are oil soluable vitamins and are absorbed in the body better if taken with fats. But I have added a teaspoon to it to my fish salad (like a person might add mayonnaise) or you can use it to prepare a salad dressing by adding spices. It is pretty much light and tasteless. It is derived from coconut oil so can be used like you would any cold oil. It is just very expensive so a person does not want to get carried away.

Hope this helps. I will try to look up the video with the data for feeding the brain and the brain being under fueled by glucose as we get insulin resistant and older.
