Subject: RE: Brillion packer verses a double rolling basket ?

My experience is with sandy loam to silt loam soils but my all time favorite is the Brillion crows foot packer in perfect conditions. If it is the slightest bit sticky it will pack solid and you will be looking for the nearest hard surface road to clean it out on. The crows foot didn't like corn stalks either. I've also owned a worn out notched wheel Brillion packer that did fine in the heavier soils but would quit turning and push soil in fluffy overworked sands. I'm now pulling a double rolling basket which works ok under a wide range of conditions. I ordered mine without the leveling bar because I pull it in a fair amount of residue but lots around here with leveling bars. No rocks here. Had a guy tell me that Brillion's Optimizer wheels which are keyed to turn together would dig holes when turning.
