Subject: RE: Machinery nicknames

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I forgot but many years ago when I was still in High School the local canning company switched from Pea Viners to Pea Combines. If you know what a Pea Viner is you are old. But anyway they got some brand new ones, some well used ones from a different plant and two really old dogs that were about 100' long. The old mechanic named the old ones "Lena" and "Kate". One day we got a new employee who I knew wasn't too sharp. I said to the old mechanic "Roy I see we got some new help". He had sized up the new employee and said "I put him on Lena and told him to do the best he could but stay out of the way of the rest of the crew so you guys can get something done.

Years later I decided to put names on our gravity boxes. We had four decent Demcos that I put stickers on as DEMCO 1 through DEMCO 4. We had an old small Parker and an old Ficklin. I named them Kate and Lena in memory of the old mechanic.
