I use this all the time. #9 wire about 15” long and bent 90 degrees for handles. Just hold loosely and pointed straight out and once they cross, wa la you found a tile drain.
It works simply because of the gravitational pull which changes with underground drains. Saves a lot of probing for “I think it is right here”
