I don't know how the active down pressure works on the JD 750, I suspect it was designed to work with a "pressure compensated" closed center hydraulic system such as those found on 30, 40, 50 series JD tractors.
The system on an 876 Versatile is a "flow and pressure compensated" (aka "load sensing") closed center system and they are different than a "pressure compensated" closed center system.
A "pressure compensated" closed center system is designed to keep a relatively high (2000+ PSI) standby pressure to the hydraulic remotes at all times. If you hook the remote to something (such as a hydraulic cylinder) and move your hydraulic lever to send oil to it, the system will simply maintain the standby pressure when the cylinder reaches the end of it's stroke and no more oil flow is required, even if you continue to hold the lever in a position to send oil to the cylinder.
With a "flow and pressure compensated" system, if a hydraulic lever is held to send oil to a cylinder after the cylinder has reached the end of its stroke, the system will go into high pressure standby. These systems are not designed to run constantly in high pressure standby, and if used as such pump failure will occur.
Talk to a dealer and see if the 750 active down pressure can be reconfigured to work with an open center system. If so, you could probably run it with the Versatile because running it as an open center system should work with the "flow and pressure compensated" closed center system on the Versatile.
