Iowa | I've got a 7250 Magnum that will abruptly lose power when pulling above 2000 RPM after only a couple minutes. The engine would kill if I do not push the clutch in. It puts out a small puff of black smoke when this happens, but otherwise is not smoking. The engine returns to normal as abruptly as it lost power. I can pull the same load faster by shifting up a couple gears and running at 1900 RPM without losing power. It will run without losing power for hours so long as I keep the RPMs down.
I don't know why it's losing power. So far I've -
-replaced the two main and the inline fuel filters
-checked to make sure air filters are clean
-zip tied the fuel shut off soleniod open to make sure it was not shutting off the fuel
-made sure intake screen was clean on the lift pump
-put extra hose clamps on the rubber fuel line going to the lift pump
-made sure the hose going from the fuel tank to the lift pump was not restricted and had a good flow of fuel
-replaced old lift pump with new lift pump
Could it be something wrong with the wastegate on the turbo? Something else?
