nc IA | I splurged and took my best friend and my oldest son up this summer when Aluminum Overcast was in Mason City for a visit (Aluminum Overcast). My late grandfather served as a maintenance chief for B24's here in the states during the war. I am honored to have received his own personal issued maintenance manual set from the Consolidated Aircraft company. Still in their original leather briefcase.
That was an amazing flight, I don't know how long it took right off, but it wasn't very long at all. The feeling of those radials when they kicked the power on the runway was something I'll never forget, granted, we weren't carrying a bomb load - but wow it was feeling of acceleration and throbbing throughout the fuselage.
My son was 12 this summer - and it was his very first flight in any aircraft. We were up about 1/2 hour and it was worth every cent to experience and support their operation.
