Brandon, MS | The way I understand it, the CARES act will add additional money on top of the state unemployment. They will add money to make up the difference between state unemployment and what you were making. They will add up to $600 per week maximum.
So in your friend's case, he gets $250 from state unemployment and the CARES act will kick in $200 more to get him up to the $450 he was making.
So if he can make it til all the paperwork is filed and the checks come in, he can sit at the house and draw a full check for up to 4 months.
