Subject: Agriculture was first industry socialized.........

East Central South Dakota
more industries to come. You could debate the fact that Democracies naturally flow to socialism. You get elected by giving money to people for votes. Agriculture was the first socialized and now with the give away and Governmental meddling with the virus more industries are sure to come. I thought maybe we hit reverse these last 3 years, but today I feel like just vote Bernie now and get it over with faster---we are going down the road of socialism like it or not. The people of this country will not suffer or change live style and Government will try to appease both --for votes. I think maybe the snow, mud and water has me down a little tonight---more than prices because I am not selling right now anyway. We desperately need some sunshine and heat to change some moods up here. I don't see a bright future unless we get drastic with the political status quo. We need Congress term limits to get rid of corruption and a line item veto to balance the budget. I wrote the piece below for a some banking friends who said I am definitely in a small minority in my thinking. The piece below might not be popular, but tell me I am wrong with some facts. Apologies ahead of time for those offended.

Governmental policy and intervention always creates unintended consequences.
A. crop insurance C. environmental regulatory oversights
B. farm bill

We have to start letting this market work. The constant meddling and intervention of government is creating an effect of an economic air hose whipping out of control because we took the chuck off. Markets will work when they are allowed to work independent of governmental meddling. This doesn't mean everyone gets to stay in business in production agriculture. Culling of the herd is a natural process and Governmental intervention will not prevent it, Governmental intervention only prolongs it at the tax payers' expense.

We have enough aid built into the system today. There is a price component and a revenue component built right into the farm bill-- for our protection. We have a tax payer subsidized crop insurance program for weather disasters--- for our protection. We have a MFP program that protected us against trade wars. We have enough price and crop protection already built into production agriculture. If you take all risk out of an industry you will eventually take away most of the profit----we have arrived at this statement today in Agriculture.

Agriculture is the poster child for socialism. No other industry in the country is as socialized as Agriculture and it has to stop. It is time we as an industry stand on our own two feet and say "enough". Let the market work and let the taxpayer keep his money. Simply writing checks is a soft target. If you want to do something go after the hard targets like packer concentration and price manipulation in the beef industry. The socialization of production agriculture has ensured production agriculture will only get crumbs for eternity when monopolized freedom of packers and multi-national corporations enables them to have the whole loaf.
