I'm old so I guess none of this is relevant.
I obtained a Chauffers License when I was 21 (1961) So I could drive school bus for College Field trips.
They converted that to a Commercial License in 1990 . I had owned a Airbrake Tandem Truck that was licensed @ 48,000 lbs . They checked to make sure it was licensed . Then just a written test for the semi tractor trailer combo . License.
