Subject: risk assessment

Pittsburg, Kansas

There have been books written on how poorly humans evaluate risk.

Yep. That trip to the 7-11 for that Pepsi likely puts a person at much more risk of dying from an auto accident than any pesticides on our vegetables or covid 19. But driving is the devil we know and accept as an acceptable risk of living.

Lots of things we could do to reduce risk of injury and dying if we were really serious about it. Unnecessary travel would be high on the list. But who wants to do that? Not me.

Covid 19 efforts may save more lives through fewer auto accidents than lives saved through fewer covid 19 deaths simply because people are staying home more and driving less.

If we really want to reduce deaths, just outlaw unnecessary driving. Man wouldn't that go over great? LOL

John
