East Central SD | There is actually a book called "Against Empathy" which I would recommend. I didn't need it to change my mind rather it just confirmed my initial bias.
Empathy is great and absolutely necessary as long as it doesn't lead to poor decision making. Imagine a President or a General sending his troops off to war. Individually that leader will cry inside for each person he is sending to his death but he still has to execute that order for the greater good of the people. We simply cannot worry about the individual. We are just a number in the end.
And in our little economic war right now we are not willing to sacrifice a few high risk individuals that shouldn't even be at risk because they should be capable of keeping themselves out of harms way by self isolating. | |
