No. The 400 acres I have purchased in the last 30+ years I had farmed previously for many years. The other 160 acres the previous farmer had went broke and my father called and asked him if he was planning on trying to stay afloat and continue renting it in future and he said no. I didn’t celebrate that either because the whole family with 3 children moved away. One less family in township and school system. Another half section came up for rent close but a young man’s father was renting it and he was just starting out. Let him have it and let him eventually purchase it and he is now a good friend and important part of our community. Our time on earth is limited my friend but eternity is a mighty long time.
I am the same and am fortunate that many of my neighbors are the same. The land I was fortunate to rent was offered to me by the land owners. I didn't seek any of it out. However those same land owners have been approached by some who tried to get them to take it away from me and rent it to them. One of my land lords told me "that's just business", implying that I should do the same. Had no desire to try and do that to someone else. |
